Senior Living
A new NAHB study of American Community Survey data shows that, in the United States as a whole, over 48 million households are headed by someone age 55 or older – accounting for approximately 42 percent of all U.S. households. The original study, completed by, reveals that in Iowa, out of an estimated 1.23 million households, 433,649 are owned by persons aged 55 or older. The state ranks 22nd in the nation with a 42.8 percent share.

The Woodwork
The National Association of the Remodeling Industry is predicting double digit growth in 2016, as owners who have postponed projects in the past are coming out of the woodwork amid strengthening conditions in the housing market. The drivers, according to Chris Herbert with Harvard’s Joint Center for Housing Studies, are “encouraging owners to invest in more discretionary home improvements, such as kitchen and bath remodeling and room additions,” in addition to necessary replacements or repairs.
